Maximum Range and NEDC Range
Maximum Range
It refers to the range of an electric vehicle tested under relatively single operating conditions, generally at a low and constant speed.
NEDC Range
It refers to the final mileage obtained by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology when an electric vehicle runs from full charge to exhausted power according to the NEDC test standard (including 4 urban cycles and 1 suburban cycle).
Why do pure electric cars consume more electricity when driving on highways?
Many new energy vehicle enthusiasts have noticed that when electric vehicles are driving on the highway, the battery level drops very quickly. However, for fuel vehicles, driving on the highway is more fuel-efficient. Why is this?
The main reason why gasoline-powered vehicles are more fuel-efficient when driving on the highway is that they can more easily reach and maintain the engine's economical speed range. When the engine runs at this speed, fuel efficiency is the highest, so fuel consumption is relatively low.
In contrast, electric vehicles drive the vehicle directly through an electric motor and usually do not have the transmission of a traditional fuel vehicle. This means that when driving at high speeds, the electric motor must run at a higher speed in order to maintain a higher speed. This high-speed operation causes the power battery to undergo high-power discharge, thereby consuming more power. Because the battery is less efficient in a highly discharged state, the range of an electric vehicle is significantly reduced at high speeds.
In short, fuel vehicles optimize fuel efficiency by adjusting engine speed, while electric vehicles need to maintain high speeds to provide power at high speeds, resulting in increased battery power consumption and thus affecting endurance.
How to extend the range of electric vehicles
Energy recovery to maximum
When conditions permit, the vehicle's regenerative energy recovery system should be used as much as possible for braking and deceleration during deceleration, and the brakes should be used only in emergency situations. This allows the vehicle's regenerative energy system to be maximized, recovering additional electrical energy during deceleration and storing it in the vehicle's battery.
Keep the vehicle in its original state
Avoid installing external attachments such as roof racks and roof boxes on electric vehicles. The reason is that these devices increase air resistance and accelerate energy consumption.
Pay attention to driving habits
Keep a constant speed and minimize the vehicle's electrical equipment, such as air conditioning.
The endurance of electric vehicles is the focus of car owners. As long as you understand the vehicle's endurance and plan charging stations reasonably, daily driving will not be greatly affected. In addition, don't forget to choose faster and better charging equipment for your car, so that you can travel more safely!
