Global News | Indonesia Plans to Invest Heavily in Building Public Charging Stations

Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Director General for Electricity, Jisman Hutajulu, stated at a seminar held on the same day that this plan will significantly increase the number of charging stations in Indonesia. "Currently, there are 3,233 public electric vehicle charging stations in operation nationwide, and according to the plan, this number is expected to rise to 63,000 in the future."

Jisman Hutajulu stated that Indonesia's daily fuel consumption is currently 1.4 million barrels, while the average daily crude oil production is only about 600,000 barrels, resulting in a significant supply-demand gap for fuel. If the construction of charging stations proceeds as planned, it is expected to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 66,000 barrels per day, partially alleviating Indonesia's dependence on imported fuel. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the number of electric vehicles in Indonesia is projected to reach 943,000 by 2030. The expansion of charging infrastructure will not only help meet the growing market demand but also play an important role in energy security and environmental protection.
